TDR Nesstar Update

Tri-University Data Resources (TDR) has been offering the new NESSTAR web-retrieval service for the past year. Users were still able to access the original web-retrieval system although maintainance on the old site ceased as of January 2006. As of December 21, 2006, the link to the old web-retrieval system has been removed. The link to the RAW DATA files has also been removed. These files were part of the old web-retrieval system and therefore are no longer active.

All data must now be accessed using the Nesstar web-retrieval link from the TDR home page. User guides and on-line tutorials are available from the Nesstar site for those who require assistance.

Please contact your local data provider if you have questions or require assistance with the new system.

NEW CENSUS 2001 RELEASES

Topic-based Tabulations
Beginning July 16, 2002, this series of tables will paint a portrait of Canada based on various topics, that is on groups of variables on related subjects. They will be available for various levels of geography. Some tables will provide a simple overview of the country; others will consist of three or four cross-tabulated variables; and still others will be of special or analytic interest.

Profiles
These tables provide a statistical overview of various geographic areas based on a large number of detailed variables. Groups of variables, referred to as electronic components of profiles, will be made available in each of the eight major releases, beginning July 16, 2002 with the components of profiles for census divisions /
census subdivisions (CD /CSDs). Together, the electronic components of profiles will form a complete profile.

Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs)
Beginning in the 3rd quarter of 2004, these files will provide access to non-aggregated data such that users can conduct their own research or analysis.

October 1998:

The TriUniversity Group of Libraries (TUG -Guelph, Waterloo, Laurier) along with Computing and Communications Services (CCS - Guelph) and Information Technolgy Services (ITS - Waterloo) recently joined together to establish TriUniversity Data Resources (TDR).

This service provides TUG students, faculty and staff with quick and easy access to electronic data--statistical and geospatial-- from organizations such as Statistics Canada and ICPSR, and offers links to other relevant data sources on the Internet. The service was created jointly to take advantage of efficiencies in terms of both hardware, software and human resources. Service should be significantly improved for all those involved in accessing this information. This is an exciting and innovative approach to disseminating electronic data..
