Description - User Guide - Dataset - Interim list of changes to municipal boundaries, status, and names - back to Geographic Census Data Index

DESCRIPTION:

The 2008 Intercensal Census Subdivision Boundary File portrays the boundaries of all 5,405 census subdivisions which combined cover all of Canada. The file contains the following attributes: census subdivision unique identifier, census subdivision name, census subdivision type, province/territory unique identifier, province/territory name, census division unique identifier, census division name and census division type.

The boundaries, names, codes and status of census subdivisions reflect those in effect on January 1, 2008, the geographic reference date for this edition of the Census Subdivision Boundary File. Information about any census subdivision changes that were effective on or before the January 1, 2008 reference date must have been received by Statistics Canada prior to March 1, 2008, in order to be processed in time for this edition of file.

The 2008 Census Subdivision Division Boundary File depict boundaries that sometimes extend beyond shorelines into water, rather than follow the shoreline, to ensure that all land and islands are included.

The 2008 Census Subdivision Boundary File does not replace the 2006 Census Subdivision Boundary File.
